Manhattan Beach Centenial Kick-Off

Blog, Community News, Manhattan Beach News

Manhattan Beach, the hometown that we know and love, was officially incorporated in December 1912 and has a storied history that will be celebrated leading up to our Centennial in 2012. On Sunday, Jan. 29, the City of Manhattan Beach kicked off its year-long centennial celebration at Manhattan Village with entertainment, magicians, music and good old-fashioned fun. The next activity is an art contest for kindergarten through 12th grade students with one winner per grade. Entrants will submit art that shows their favorite thing about Manhattan Beach. Winning entries will be displayed at Taste of Manhattan, a ticketed event with food and entertainment, held downtown on March 25. A parade and historic picnic are planned for May 19, a centennial festival/downtown open house/MB Pier event will be held in July and a Centennial Ball on Sept. 22. The year-long centennial celebration will conclude with a special centennial fireworks display at the city’s annual December fireworks event.
