The 20th Annual Smackfest beach volleyball tournament takes place Saturday in Hermosa Beach. Billed as the largest co-ed 4’s tournament in the country, the event features a party atmosphere and costume-themed teams with some of the game’s greats competing against each other. Smackfest now rivals the Charlie Saikley 6-Man as the most popular local beach volleyball tournament of the summer. The has grown in popularity due to one primary reason – it’s fun. It features a party atmosphere and costume-themed teams. It’s like being at a house party that were once so prevalent in the South Bay prior to the upgrading of the lower Pier area a decade or so ago. It is billed as the largest co-ed 4’s tournament in the country. The event has a cap of 600 participants playing on 33 courts and offers a wonderful social experience that brings everyone together. Smackfest benefits So Cal Foundation for Children (SCFC) which raises funds for scholarships, education, guidance and athletic opportunity to underprivileged youth.
